More than a hundred people waving signs in support of Price gathered on the stairs of the Alameda County Superior Courthouse.
She said she was the first non anointed district attorney in over 100 years.
Price supports criminal justice reform. Several people who were previously in jail attended the rally.
Price says she will stand up for the victims of crime.
Carol Ferguson Jones’ son was killed. She has been trying to get in touch with the office for the last 5 years.
No one replied until recently.
She heard my call while she was in office for 45 days. She replied by texting. She did not have to do what she did. Ferguson Jones said that he felt a sense that he could move on.
Over her first few months in office, Price’s team has done a number of things, including expanding victim services, mental health services and holding the powerful accountable.
She says it also means prosecutors in her office.
The people of Alameda County are less safe because Price wants to seek lower sentences even for violent crimes.
There was a charge levied against the San Francisco district attorney.
A comparison Price did not shy away from. About 16,000 signatures have been gathered to recall the price.
I believe in the engagement and activism of this community and I am not worried about the backlash that they call a recall. We know what democracy looks like in Alameda County.
There was a sign that said “Justice 4 Jasper” across the street. Jasper was almost 2 years old when he was killed in a shooting.
His family is worried that his alleged killers will not be sentenced to prison.
There are false reports that Price is not seeking prison time for the men suspected of killing Jasper. The way she runs her office isn’t going to be changed.
Price announced at the rally that she will be launching a gun violence task force.
